Karina Grover was hot.Jackie and Ramya were OK but the movie belongs to Dada.Playing a disgraced commando turned drunken mafia enforcer he belongs in a Japanese samurai movie. And he's awesome. One of the best things about the movie is it's solid supporting cast with nobody hamming or phoning it in.Kader Khan,Gulshan Grover,Salim Ghouse,Ranjeet(my favourite)and Raza Murad are the bad guys what a line-up.Achyut podtar in a rare positive role was surprising. And Shakti Kapoor & Guddi Maruti were wonderful as the comic relief's. The main plot deals with the mystery regarding the killing of local politicians by the cities gangsters to keep their bought and paid for politician in power. It's very intricately plotted since we don't know till the very end who's the boss(course it's kind of guessable)but the fun is in watching Dada and Jackie solve the puzzle together and kick some serious ass along the way.The action sequences are very, very well done.Specially the climax where it's just one long sequence running for around 25 minutes and it's some serious carnage including cars blasting, limbs tearing,3-4 guys jumping in the air after getting kicked and bursting through glass walls.Kudos to action director Rambo. Mithunda being younger and physically in way better shape than these guys seeing that his movies were not doing so well in major cities but very successful in smaller territories and theatres even in the cities and if they could be made cheaper could be very profitable for all involved moved to Ooty in Bangalore. He Purchased a chain of hotels there, moved there with his family and worked with mostly the same cast and crews to make cheap but not necessarily bad action-thriller movies.Shapath is the best of them!Trust me I've seen all of them.
But, overall avoid all Mithun-TLV Prasad movies except Shera and Zakhmi Sipahi.Īround the mid 90's when the next generation of stars(the 3 Khan's and Khiladi Kumar mainly) our 80's Superstars either went into politics (Vinod Khanna & Shatrughan Sinha) went into semi retired-ness(Jeetendra,Rishi Kapoor) kept working in B grade or even C grade films (Dharmendra)or just kept on struggling till they hit it big again (Amitabh Bachchan). The only thing good about them were their lack of clothes on to seduce the badguys. The heroines are all from the South and all act horribly. Mithun as the killer was also a bad way to create suspense and how he pretends to be the badguy and killing the badguys at the end.
#Shapath movie how to
Jackie Shroff as the struggling inspector only knew how to overact by shouting. Mithun drinking whiskey and fighting and the badguys start flying up and down. The action sequences were absolutely horrible. Which explains the 1 rating I gave to the movie. The family scenes, drama scenes, corruption disccusion scenes were good. The entry of Mithun saving the minister from death is so stupid. The plot of the story had many clichés throughout. Coming to the 1997 movie Shapath(Oath), a gigantic disaster. From 1993 to 2000, he had more than 30 flops but the surprising thing was film makers were still signing him. I am a big fan of Mithun Chakraborthy but he was wasted badly starting from 1993 his movies in the early 90's were good though. So of course, I recommend this film to all Hindi Cinema Fans! Thumbs Up! I loved 'Shapath', I've seen this film many, many times. Kader Khan, Gulshan Grover & Salim Ghose are perfect in their parts. Ramya looked great then and her performance is up-to the mark. Shakti Kapoor is excellent, his comedy track is truly hilarious. Both of the Legendary actors are a treat to watch. Acting wise, as mentioned, Mithunda & Jackie are in terrific form. Babbar's direction is superb, this is his best work. In fact, it became a rage across the nation. Remember my advice! Altaf Raja delivered a super-hit song in here, 'Ishq Aur Pyar Ka', which proved to be a smash hit. My advice to all who haven't seen this killer flick yet: Don't look for logic in 'Shapath', it's an out-and-out masala film, it's for those who enjoy Hindi Cinema for it's ever-lasting escapism.
A highly-entertaining film with Mithunda & Jackie delivering terrific performances. Rajiv Babbar's box-office super-duper-hit 'Shapath' is escapist cinema at it's best.
